Nadia Hussain has virtually ruled the ramp for the past many years, her towering height and classic features making her a favourite with designers. Meeting her at her beautiful home, I cannot help but notice that she is even prettier in real life, without make-up. Wearing a casual pair of jeans and a blue top, she seems clearly relaxed, her daughter sleeping soundlessly next to her. Between her two children, Nadia’s career, of course, underwent a change but she has silenced all the sceptics who had written her off, by making a comeback of sorts. She is once again creating waves at the fashion front, with everyone, from designers to photographers wanting a piece of her – so much so that she is the only model to have been selected by Rizwan Beyg to represent Pakistan in the Sarajevo Fashion Week.

During the course of our conversation it was clear that Nadia is very focused and spirited, and living her life’s passions every day. She serves as an outstanding role model for working moms and young girls alike, and in fact, for anyone who wants to experience the joy of bringing passion into their lives and living each moment to the fullest.

]SZ — First of all Nadia, what an amazing comeback! You are looking more gorgeous than ever. What motivated you to shed all the weight you had gained after your second child was born, and come back with such amazing looks?

NH — I guess my motivation was the fact that I hated not being able to fit into my old jeans, and looked horrible in photographs with this big round face! I had never been like that before. So, looking at myself in the mirror, and not being able to fit into my old clothes was motivation enough. And plus, for the last few years I had always been there for my children; done everything for them, and realized I needed to give some time to myself as well. I wanted to look good not because I was in the fashion business, but for my own self-esteem.

SZ — And you have done some of your best work since your comeback.

NH — That, I guess is because now I feel I can concentrate more on my work. I started modelling when I was studying dentistry at Baqai and could not put a lot of time into modelling. Studies really took up a lot of my time and I wasn’t too keen on travelling to other cities for shoots and fashion shows. Now, after the kids, I feel I have become a little more independent. Not that I don’t have responsibilities at home, but my kids are well settled in their schools. So, now I really have the time to concentrate on my work. Plus, there is no pressure of studies, so I can take time out and go to Lahore for shoots, since for some reason, a lot of work has shifted to Lahore.
