Manic mornings
It’s time all morning talk show hosts were taught how to behave while facing television cameras! Ever since the advent of cable TV in Pakistan, chat show presenters have eclipsed all other celebrities, including actors, in terms of fame and recognition. Perhaps that’s what’s now gotten to their heads.
One particular morning show host, a woman whose claim to fame before landing this job was aping the likes of Hasina Moin heroines as an actress, seems to have a self-obtained licence of treating showbiz people in a condescending way — as if they were nothing more than cattle! You’ve guessed it: Nadia Khan.
The other day the heartthrob of/from yesteryear Bindiya was on her show. It was lovely to see the great actress/singer looking as graceful as she ever used to. One would have ideally liked to give her the respect and love she so richly deserves, but the anchor treated her so like an ordinary creature, trying to dig out the ghosts from her past (her relationship with her former husband, etc) which visibly made Bindiya uncomfortable to say the least.
But for regular viewers of the morning show it was nothing out of the blue as Nadia is in the habit of interviewing people as if she’s doing them a huge favour by having them on the show.
Bearing this in mind, allegedly, Resham has declined to make an appearance on her show despite repeated invitations because the smart gal has the better sense to know that the host doesn’t know when to stop once she starts yapping.
Tell you what: dread the moment when this morning mezban meets her match in an equally mindless, inconsiderate chatterbox of an anchor of another TV channel. There are plenty of those around these days, you know!
